Principal Radar Systems Engineer
Job Description:
The Surveillance Radars Department in the Systems Architecture Design and Integration Directorate (SADID) is committed to providing critical, innovative system engineering expertise in the development and deployment of world-class Radar Systems.
The department consists of a Systems Engineering team providing subject matter expertise for concept development, architectural design, requirements generation & flowdown, modeling & simulation, systems analysis, integration, test and evaluation. The department is unique in that its scope includes developing Multi-Band/Multi-Mode Radar Systems, providing Low Elevation/Clutter Mitigation, and utilizing Digital Beam Forming. It is based at Raytheons Surveillance and Sensors Center in Sudbury, MA, but also has employees located at the Missile Defense Center (MDC) in Woburn, MA, Integrated Air Defense Center (IADC) in Andover, MA, Integrated Defense Systems Headquarters (IDS HQ) in Tewksbury, MA and the Joint Battlespace Integration Center (JBIC) in Colorado Springs, CO.
The Department currently supports Zumwalt Dual Band Radar (DBR), Cobra Judy Replacement (CJR), Surveillance Radar Program (SRP), as well as several other SADID programs. It anticipates significant support to Space Fence and Air and Missile Defense Radar (AMDR) which should both should be starting shortly.
The department is in need of a Radar Systems Engineer with background and interest in radar systems design and development. This position will provide the opportunity to work with highly knowledgeable senior technical staff.
Principle technical responsibilities include System Level Modeling & Analysis, Algorithm Development, System/Subsystem Architecture Design, Requirement Development and Management, and System/Subsystem Integration and Test Support. This covers areas such as Alignment/Calibration, Motion Compensation and Control, Dual Band Multi-sensor Radar Operation and Control, Adaptive Array Processing, Digital Receivers, Signal Processing, Clutter Mitigation, and Detection Estimation/Tracking Algorithms.
Basic Qualifications:
· 8 years engineering experience participating in design and development activities.
· Firm understanding of and experience with complex radar systems.
· B.S. Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics.
Desired Qualifications:
· Background in Radar Systems Engineering including radar signal / data processing (surveillance, tracking and discrimination / classification), resource management & scheduling, radar waveform design, calibration, fault detection / fault isolation, antenna design and analysis, receiver / exciter design and analysis.
· Knowledge of modeling & simulation, radar performance trades and analyses and / or radar integration & test.
· Experience in system / hardware / software requirements flowdown and development, system / software / hardware integration, radar subsystem (string) test and / or system test for phased array radars is particularly relevant.
· Strong written and oral communication skills including the ability to create and deliver effective presentations.
· Experience presenting to internal and external customers.
· Initiative to take ownership of a problem and work it through to conclusion with minimal managerial oversight.
· Proficiency in MatLab.
· Demonstrated team leadership skills.
· Active DoD security clearance.
· PhD and/or M.S. Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
