Position Summary:
This position is in the Controls Systems & Mechanisms Department of the Mechanical Subsystems Directorate. Provides support across all Raytheon Missile Systems programs and serves as design authority and focal point for control actuation systems, deployment devices, rotating control surfaces, locks, and ejectable covers, as we drive for lower cost integrated subsystems through technology development with an emphasis on product reuse and commonality. Applies an exceptional degree of ingenuity, creativity and resourcefulness through the development and application of highly advanced controls technologies, scientific principles, theories and concepts. Assists in providing leadership direction for strategic roadmap planning for the department. Collaborates with program management in long-range program planning concerning new or projected areas of technological research and is a key spokesperson on programs technical capabilities and future directions.
Required Experience and Skills:
Ten years applied experience in control systems and mechanism design/development and application including academic and/or professional experience in system modeling, hardware design, or test and verification of electromechanical systems comprising geartrains and servo motors.
Demonstrated breadth in the various disciplines of control system and mechanism development including systems design and analysis, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and extensive test and verification experience of electromechanical systems.
Experience in proposal and cost preparation, requirements definition and flow down, systems analysis, modeling and simulation, hardware and algorithm design, system hardware test and verification, operational test support, supplier coordination
Experience and ability to organize and communicate technical information effectively with peers, senior management, and customers
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact positively with co-workers, suppliers, management, and customers in a team environment
Group management skills, leadership skills, and strong communication skills
Must currently have or be able to obtain a DoD issued Secret Security Clearance
Degree Requirements:
Bachelor of Science in Aerospace, Electrical, Computer Science, Mechanical, Control System, or Systems Engineering; Applied or Engineering Physics
Desired Experience & Skills:
Masters or PhD in General, Aerospace, Electrical, Computer Science, Mechanical, Control System, or Systems Engineering; Applied or Engineering Physics
Fifteen years experience in control systems design and development including the development of electromechanical systems comprising geartrains and brushless servo motors.
Exposure to flight control or control systems for unmanned air vehicles, aircraft, missiles, steering systems mounted on vehicles, robotics, satellites, autonomous vehicles, weapons, or factory automation
Supplier collaboration experience and oversight generating specifications and statements-of-work
Experience with Matlab/Simulink, PSpice, dSpace, and Analog Workbench
Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
Ensures technical rigor and depth of all deliverables
Plans, directs, and ensures appropriate leadership for Control Systems and Mechanisms development and support tasks for Programs and Products
Develops, deploys, and maintains design processes for Control Systems and Mechanisms that integrates the appropriate functional elements within engineering external to the department
Develops innovative technologies, products, and strategies for Control Systems and Mechanisms in support of weapons systems development
Develops, deploys, and maintains Technology and Product roadmaps for control systems and mechanisms in support of Raytheon Missile Systems strategic products
Develops project leads and opportunities
Provides counsel and mentoring for more junior members of the Control Systems & Mechanisms Department
