  • Job Complexity

    • Coordinate efforts to minimize repetitive motion injuries. Must work with many different functional departments to recommend and implement corrective actions to reduce the risk of injury due to repetitive motions. This involves the Operations (Production) and Engineering (and Maintenance) teams as they are responsible for the equipment used in the production and packaging of Godiva products as well as developing work practices associated with production. It also includes educating Marketing, Packaging Engineering and Creative Services so that they can design packing components and techniques that reduce the risk to Godiva employees

    • Managing difficult Workers\' Compensation cases. Some employee work related injuries are severe, or due to the length of recovery, become difficult to manage. Coordination between the employee, the Workers\' Compensation insurance carrier, the medical providers and the employee\'s Supervisor/Manager is necessary to ensure the employee returns to work in a timely fashion, receives the best possible medical care for the injury/illness and limits the risk to the business. Perform and assist in incident investigations to ensure claim accuracy and develop corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence. This is a more difficult task on the Retail side as each state has different Workers\' Compensation Laws and requires a greater level of partnership with the Workers\' Compensation Insurance company and retail Store Managers.

    • EHS Manager will develop and implement a safety policy. Also, the EHS Manager had to become a Lead Auditor and \"sell\" the new audit tool to the organization.

    • Develop strategic safety plan to meet internal goals. Must develop strategy aimed at reducing lost time injuries by 50% over three years. Requires working with all levels within the organization to achieve results. Must ensure Senior Plant Leadership support for efforts, align Supervisors to drive efforts and work with line employees to drive safe behaviors. Must be an Agent of Change to break down long standing work habits that have been identified as having risk.

    • Tracking of hazardous waste must be carefully tracked through manifests to ensure these wastes don\'t end up in a government superfund site (all contributors share an equal cost to clean-up abatement). Failure to do so could place the Godiva business in a serious financial situation.

Recycle Program at the plant can generate significant savings as well as income for Godiva. EHS Manager is charged with ensuring maximum returns are realized from the recycle program. This includes leading the Godiva Waste Not, Want Not recycle team.
